Soft pink flower

New Fad in Front-Yard Seating
Over the summer, I noticed a new way people are representing their family; think of those tacky stickers people place on their rear-windshields only now in their front-yards.

Puffy Sunrise
Golden clouds march
towards the mountain top,
illuminated by
the rising sun.
2015
Light has a way
of giving different impressions
of the same thing.
One feels different
than the other.

When I saw this flower,
I could not help remembering
a summer treat from the Ice Cream Man.

Plasma Sky
A few seconds of exposure
capture the plasma light,
looming ominously
from above the creepy
soul-warehouse --
a retirement home,
ironically called
Sunrise.
2015
Some sunrises
are certainly better
than others.

As humans, we work together to overcome the elements of nature. Like the mountain, some stones rise higher than others. In the affluent regions of the world, the lower stones grow larger than those atop the third-world hills. Why do we build single-family dwellings so large when so many have so little? It's a shame the view from this height does not satisfy.

Water Cover
Wet water cover.
2015
Look very close and you'll see two eyes in that dark hole, staring back.
On the other hand, this spider sports
a perfect Fu Manchu
and accompanying haircut.
Two different webs, two different spiders.

Walking is Life
There is something so fundamental to the health and well-being of the human body that simply gets out and wanders about. It doesn't really matter where you go, just pick a direction and go.

The Bright Colorful World of Childhood
Shooting at night allows for unique light sources that add character and tone. This photo reminds me of what it's like to be a kid, how simple, bright and colorful the world can be.

Bush Eye-patch
The shadow of a stop-sign
makes the perfect
eye-patch for this
bush-face.
2015
Cool weather, warm light, dark city.

The Hypocrisy Oath
So many religions, so many philosophies, all saying so many things. Why do we buy into them? Do we really want to treat each other better or do we want to control the ultimate outcome of death? We want others to believe what we believe because it validates our choices and reinforces our point of view. Is being right the real goal or living with integrity. So the question stands: can I recommend what I do?

Meeting for Breakfast
Early morning light
and some sweet pollen
make for a great breakfast.
2015
Seriously?
Can we not pay attention and remain reasonable
or are we all so entitle?

Eat, move, sleep, and live like a caveman. Why? We didn't survive for hundreds of thousands of years without some wisdom. Our techno-consumer culture threatens our ability to remain in touch with some simple truths. Start reading now.

Waiting for Lunch
We all have to wait
until lunch
arrives.

A crack, a few chips,
and a tiny stone
create the impression

Cloud Eye Stares at Mountain
Like the eye of a spotlight
the sun stares at the
mountain peak.
2015
The colorful hand-prints of children,
set in a blank background.

Sin is a political movement.
Who profits from sin? The definitions, the very concept comes from the powers that be. We build monuments and places of worship to remind us of these limits. In the end, sin is the way we comfort ourselves that our side is right and our enemy is wrong.

Grandma's Words
The family laughs together
with Grandma's
stern words.

The form and color
of this emerging flower
has a clear reflection to fire.

On the birthday of a close friend who has lost his way in this world, I dedicate this photo to him. I can only hope he chooses to stop, take stock, and look around. Maybe he'll see the beauty of this world and be inspired to add his voice to ours. Read my blog post about his struggles at jaxoncohen.blogspot.com

Intoxication
Sometimes on days like today,
feeling the intoxication
of purpose and meaning
is all that matters.

Color, mountain, rays of light, texture, and form...
what else is there in a great sunrise?

Table Flowers
No worries.
What looks like a gun
is a piano.
An odd dichotomy.

The wonderful, warm summer colors
of early morning.

This pic captures the reflection of the tree that dropped the acorns in the gutter.

Thinking of the Coming
When I think of the cold nights to come,
I smile with anticipation of sleep.
2015
This is a visual narrative of how man starts
by paralleling nature's wisdom,
but then we veer off
in our own direction
because we can.

I cannot count the number of times I've seen the same media-image associated with the current Ebola outbreak. I wonder if I'd simply passed by this worm, temporarily caught in its own tail, if it had not been for crisis in Liberia and surrounding countries. Instead, my eye was caught by this eerie parallel.
