Golden leaves
pour color
across the
cottonwood.

Like a mountain peak
the temporary cloud reaches
in a form reflective
of the permanent ground.

The early morning shaft of light
streams across
the mountain top.

This is the season when we say
goodbye to the green and yellow,
goodbye to the brown and red,
and trade it all in for a blanket of white.
